BRAND NEW SERIES: The Incredible Journey
We're thrilled to announce the launch of Grammar Productions biggest undertaking yet - Myanmar: the incredible journey.
It's the story of two old friends, from two different worlds, on a two-thousand mile journey across the entire length of Myanmar. Many of the locations we travelled to have never been visited by a film crew before.
It will broadcast first in Myanmar on August 30th, then internationally in the first half of 2019. We're planning to bring a dedicated UK version to your screens later next year.
18 months in the making, this 8-part series - the first of its kind in Myanmar - has taken a huge collective effort in co-production with the teams at Canal Plus International and Forever Group Myanmar. It's been a joy to make.
We started exploring the idea with our partners in March 2017. Like many foreign organisations operating in Myanmar, the events of August 2017 in Rakhine did make us stop to seriously question whether we should continue our work.
Our answer was yes.
As international pressure increases on those responsible, it would be foolhardy to ignore and isolate the overwhelming majority who are not.
Grammar has been making documentaries in Myanmar for 5 years, and we're committed to telling powerful human stories that show the reality of life in one of the most diverse and complex countries on earth.
We pride ourselves on tackling tough issues in a balanced way on film, whether it be the legacy of Myanmar's colonial experience, or of Myanmar's story during WW2. Due to continuing crises and sensitivities in Myanmar during its transition to civilian rule, there are always locations we cannot go, and issues we cannot cover as frankly as we'd like.
But we feel it's better to shine half a light into a country so long a mystery to the outside world, than no light at all.
And when you get to see the incredible people of Myanmar we were privileged to meet along our journey, we hope you'll agree it was worth it.
